Travel Essentials Medical Director - Dr Marc Shaw

Travel Essentials Medical Director, Marc Shaw is a Doctor, Traveller, Actor / Director, and observer of fine humour. He was a Family Practitioner in Hamilton, New Zealand for 20 years before commencing as the first full time travellers' health specialist in New Zealand.

A member of International Society of Travel Medicine and with the Diploma of Travel Medicine from Glasgow, he is also a Fellow of the Faculty of Travel Medicine and a Fellow of the Australasian College of Tropical Medicine.

His other medical interests include communication in Medicine, Medicine and the Media, and the Art in Medicine.

Currently he has a dual role, with a teaching post at James Cook University, Townsville, Australia and as the Medical Director of the Worldwise Travellers Health Centres in New Zealand. He is also the Director of Worldwise Online, an information based company dedicated to informing the traveller on health issues whilst abroad. He has travelled extensively, recently doing so as the Team Doctor with SES Expeditions and he was the Team Doctor with the Sir Peter Blake Expedition to Brazil and Venezuela.

His other interests include an extensive experience in the theatre, having undergone training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He conceived and directed the play 'Shuriken' by Vincent O'Sullivan for the Hamilton's fiftieth birthday in 1997; the production toured Japan. He has skills in theatre direction, scripting, and film and video production. He loves to travel, writes poetry, creates sculpture and can definitely tell the difference between a glass of Château d'Yqiem and a bottle of gin!
